Set the task up once. The rest happens in the cloud while you do other things, and you find the work already done.
From April 2026, Claude can work for you while you're offline, in a meeting, or simply away from your computer. They're called Routines, and they've been available on Claude Code since mid-April.
What Routines are
A Routine is an automated task you set up once and that runs on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure, without your Mac or PC being switched on.
You can set up:
- a daily report on the news in your industry;
- a weekly analysis of a project's data;
- an automatic sync between tools;
- a notification whenever something specific happens on GitHub or an external source.
The Routine starts on its own, runs the task, sends you the result. You find the work done.
Who can use it
You don't need to be a developer. You need a Claude Max plan or higher and a clear idea of what you want to automate.
The most accessible use cases are the repetitive ones: periodic reports, automatic updates, gathering information from different sources. Tasks that today take manual time every week.
Why it matters now
Routines aren't a technical feature for programmers. They're the answer to a question many teams ask: "How can we stop wasting time on repetitive tasks?"
The answer isn't always to hire someone. Sometimes it's to set up a tool that works while you're busy with something else.
It isn't AI replacing strategic work. It's AI freeing up time to do it.
